August 7 to 11 - Milky Way Nights

Its back and better than ever, late night observing at the RAO. The new moon will provide dark skies to view the Milky Way and with any luck maybe a meteor or two.

In the sky – The planets Venus, Mars and Saturn will be visible along with the beginning the Perseids meteor shower

September 18 - Terror from the Skies

Speaker Jeroen Stil The universe is a dangerous place. Dr. Stil will uncover the celestial objects that go bump in the night. Find out just how safe our little blue planet really is and how far away the danger lies.

In the sky – A great time to observe Jupiter and its moons, also Uranus will be at its closest of the year.

October 9 - Touring the Southern Skies

Speaker Alan Dyer, Telus World of Science, Renown speaker and astro-photographer, Alan Dyer will present his images of his travels under the skies of the Southern Hemisphere.

In the sky – The new moon will create dark skies to observe Comet Hartley.

October 30 - SCI FI Night at the Observatory Special Event

Wear your costume and join us for a fun night as we delve into the many worlds of science fiction. The evening will feature speakers presenting on your favourite authors as well as up and coming writers from Calgary Science Fiction Club. Learn about the science of star trek and the possibility of finding a planet such as Pandora. This is a ticketed event, watch our website for details.

November 13 - Countdown to NEOSat Launch

Speaker Rob Cardinal will present Canada's Asteroid hunter that will soon be launched into its orbit around the earth. This mission will help detect near earth objects and help us to discover more about the composition of our solar system.

In the sky – The sky will offer a great opportunity to observe Jupiter and its moons.
